ODFW to hold Youth Angling event at Sunnyside Park PDF Print E-mail

The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, Northwest Steelheaders and Linn County Parks Department will host a free youth fishing event at Sunnyside Park Pond near Sweet Home on Saturday, May 9 from 8 a.m. to noon.

The event is part of ODFW’s Youth Angling Enhancement Program, designed to introduce young people to the fun of fishing. The department will provide rods, reels, tackle, bait and fish bags for use by young anglers who do not have their own fishing equipment.

ODFW announces proposed 2009 Columbia River summer, fall salmon seasons PDF Print E-mail

The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife today announced recommendations for 2009 summer and fall salmon seasons on the Columbia River and at Buoy 10.

Public discussion for Columbia River summer and fall salmon seasons took place in March and early April during a series of Pacific Fishery Management Council meetings.  The proposed seasons must still be approved by the Oregon Fish and Wildlife Commission at its May 15 meeting.

Spring fishing for Gresham area youngsters will get into full swing next week when the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife stocks Mt. Hood Pond with 1,000 rainbow trout.

Next week’s event will be the first release of hatchery fish at Mt. Hood Pond since new rules took effect, designating it as a youth-only fishing venue from April 1 through August 31. The 8-inch trout will be trucked in from ODFW’s Roaring River Fish Hatchery near Scio.

2009 Zone-by-Zone Oregon spring fishing forecast

Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife officials today announced the 2009 Spring Fishing Forecast, a statewide overview of conditions and fishing opportunities throughout Oregon. The forecast is available on the ODFW Web site.

Trout season opens April 25 in most parts of the state, kicking off the spring and summer trout fishing season for thousands of Oregon families and fishing enthusiasts. In the meantime, ODFW has been stocking dozens of lakes, ponds and reservoirs that are open year-round with legal-sized trout and many anglers already have enjoyed some very productive days on the water.

Trout stocked for Junction City Pond youth fishing event PDF Print E-mail

Young people interested in learning how to fish will have great opportunity at a free youth fishing event on Saturday, April 18 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Junction City Pond.

The event is part of the Youth Angling Enhancement Program sponsored by the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, which will stock more than 1,000 rainbow trout for the Junction City Moose Lodge’s annual youth fishing derby.  The trout come from Willamette Hatchery in Oakridge.
